Entries for March 2019
Term 1, Week 9 - 2019
29 March, 2019 by Hokowhitu School
Earlier this week I visited Christchurch Schools with the other Principal colleagues from our Palmerston North East Kahui Ako (formerly called a Community of Learning). We were attending schools to see ways that they have developed wellbeing and resilience in their schools following the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
As this has been booked for several months, we certainly didn’t expect to be there less than a fortnight after their recent traumatic events. The children, staff and communities seem to be managing very well and every school we spoke with talked about the importance of regular routines and positivity for the children.
We will continue to develop our skills in wellbeing and resilience, so that in turn we can support our tamariki in these areas too.
Term 1, Week 8 - 2019

Our heartfelt aroha and condolences go with everyone affected by the horrible event that occurred in Christchurch last Friday. We also extend our gratitude and thanks to the many services (both professional and voluntary) that have been responders to this action, assisting those affected in any way possible, and that is right across the country!
Term 1, Week 7 - 2019

Preliminary figures show that the school will benefit from almost $1800 in profit following the cookie fundraiser. Wow! Thanks once again to everyone who supported this. Cookies are due to be delivered to school at the end of the day on the 28th March.
Term 1, Week 6 - 2019

Thank you to everyone who placed an order for cookies in the recent PTA fundraiser. We really appreciate the effort that many of you put into supporting us with raising funds that are then spent making things ‘even better’ for the tamariki here at Hokowhitu School.
The cookies will be delivered to school on the 28th March (as close to 3pm as possible so everything stays frozen).
Congratulations and thank you to Boston D who was our top seller with sales of $315.50. Wow! A prize was presented to Boston today.
Special thanks to the 4 other families who each sold between $200 and $230 of cookies too - a fine effort from all of you. Ka pai!
Term 1, Week 5 - 2019

While the main EOTC action is finished for now, cycling skills are on-going for another week. We have been really well supported in these skills by Sport Manawatu - it’s just great to see a number of children have been able to go home with their trainer wheels in their hand, rather than on their bikes. It is also very valuable to have our older learners practising cycling safely on the road.
We would encourage adults to keep supporting these new skills - like everything new learnt, it takes on-going practice to cement and retain.
