Term 2, Week 4 - 2017

Winter sport is in full swing and we have a record number of registered school teams for hockey, basketball or netball. I know many children are also registered with clubs to play either football or rugby too. This is great!
It is fantastic to see the sideline support offered by whanau when I am popping around the games. I sincerely thank all the parents who encourage their child to make a commitment to attend practises and games for the season - a special thanks to staff and parents who have put your hand up to coach and/or manage a team too. We couldn’t do it without you!

Term 2, Week 3 - 2017

Next week we welcome three ‘teachers in training’ from Massey University to our school. Jason Wu to TKW, Jonathan Clement to TKM and Joanne Donaldson to TKA. They will be with us for the next 5 weeks - under the expert guidance of their associate teachers.

CONGRATULATIONS

It is my pleasure to advise you that Sam Bradnock has been successful in securing his first Principal’s position at Colyton School. Sam has been our Deputy Principal for 3 years and we have really enjoyed him sharing his enthusiasm and passion with us.
While we will be sad to see Sam go at the end of this term, growing leaders is part of us all being lifelong learners in education ourselves, so we are very pleased for him.

I will keep you informed of the process as we prepare to advertise for another Deputy Principal.

Term 2, Week 2 - 2017

We have approximately 40 polar fleeces sitting in lost property - there are no recognisable names on any of them. If you have lost a fleece, please come and see if you can identify it in some other way as it makes no sense to have them lying there unused.
We have a fabric pen at the office that you are welcome to borrow to name your fleece directly on the inside if that helps. Naming (in more than one place) is imperative to enable us to know who to return items of clothing to when they are found.

We also ask that you check regularly to be sure that the fleece your child is wearing is actually the one with their name on it - it sounds logical but we think a number of fleeces disappear by mistake in this way.

Term 2, Week 1 - 2017

Welcome to Term 2 everyone. We have loads of exciting things planned! A special welcome to families/whanau who are new to Hokowhitu School - we hope that you have a long and happy association with us. We STRIVE to be ‘as good as we possibly can be’ at communicating with you, so do read the newsletter every Friday and ensure you have our school app downloaded on your smartphone. We can help if you ask!

Doesn’t the front of the school look great? We plan to keep this area roped off in the interim to get the grass established, however you can already see that it is going to be a very successful makeover.
The retrofitting of acoustic ceiling tiles has been equally as successful, we are absolutely delighted with the way they ‘absorb’ sound\.
