Term 2, Week 8 - 2017

We will be farewelling Mr Bradnock at the end of this term as he leaves us to take up his new position at Colyton. We will soon be advertising for a new Deputy Principal to start at the beginning of Term 4. For Term 3 this means that Helen Griffin (our other Deputy Principal) will be assisting in the running of the school, so she will need to be out of the classroom for this time. Mrs Mikkelsen will be teaching Mrs Griffin’s whanau class. We are delighted that Michelle is able to stay on for another term.

Mr Hawkins will be returning to lead TKT after his 2 terms in the Science Leadership Teaching Programme. Reece is really enthusiastic about leading a review and rejuvenation to the way we teach science at our school.

In addition to this, we will be opening up a new New Entrant class next term. We have appointed Mrs Tracey Orr to teach this class for the remainder of 2017. Tracey is an experienced New Entrant teacher and will be another asset to our team!

A special welcome back to Mr Sam Sloan. Sam has joined Miss Caldwell and Miss Coley in Te Kete Pounamu this week. It is lovely to have Mr Sloan back here teaching at Hokowhitu after his adventure/experiences in teaching in Zambia for the last 18 months!

Term 2, Week 6 - 2017

At last Friday’s ‘Teacher Only’ day, the teaching staff renewed their First Aid Certificates, and also visited either an Early Childhood Centre, another contributing school or Freyberg High School. We are increasingly learning the importance of looking forward and looking back to gain a holistic view of a child’s education - rather than solely focus on their time here.

Term 2, Week 5 - 2017

We currently have a waiting list of people eager to sell more monster raffle tickets. They have been going like ‘hot cakes’ and this is not surprising considering the fantastic prizes on offer. Please sell your tickets as quickly as you can. If you are having trouble selling them all, PLEASE RETURN your book on Tuesday morning so that others can sell them for you. To be able to raise as much money as we can to assist with purchasing pool covers, we really want to sell all the tickets.
