Term 3, Week 6 - 2018

Congratulations to the ‘Dance Strivers’, a squad of 18 dancers who are competing at tonight’s ‘DanceNZMade’ regional competition. They are participating in rehearsals and workshops at the Regent Theatre today and perform on the stage just after 6pm tonight.

Our sincere thanks to Mr Pouniu and Mrs Flaus- their preparation and commitment with this squad has been fantastic. Sincere thanks to the parents/caregivers who will be assisting with hair and make-up preparation too.

Huge congratulations to our Jump Jam team too - they have qualified to enter the regional Jump Jam competition being held in Tauranga in October. Well done and thank you to Mrs Flaus who has coached this team. At this stage we are exploring the option of the team travelling to compete in this event. If anyone has any sponsorship or fundraising ideas to assist this team, we would welcome hearing from you.

Term 3, Week 4 - 2018

Congratulations to our recent high achieving students:

The Speech competition winners were Gemma W (Year 6)and Lenny H/W (Year 5). Gemma went on to represent our school at the Rotary club’s speech festival on Monday. Special thanks to Jilly who modelled her speech for the Year 4’s too.

The Year 6 mathex team finished a very creditable 18th out of the 44 teams entered in their year group, and the Year 5 team finished with a fantastic 6th out of 35 teams in Year 5 (only 2 points off a share in 2nd place!). Excellent results!

Each of you should feel very proud of your achievements - we are proud of you!

Term 3, Week 2 - 2018

You will have seen or heard in the media that all primary school teachers and principals are taking strike action later this month.

This action has not been taken lightly, however there are real concerns about the small numbers training to become teachers (or choosing to remain in the profession after training), and also the levels of staffing and resourcing for children with additional learning needs. We need high quality teachers in front of an increasing school age population.

This means that Hokowhitu School will be closed on Wednesday 15 August. We ask that parents/caregivers DO NOT send your children to school that day - there will be no teachers on site.
