Week 10 - Term 3

Thank you so much to those who have made a contribution to a koha for the McCarthy whanau. We will continue to accept donations for the first week of next term too.

We are in the process of making appointments for 2016 teaching staff. The BoT has received resignations from Heather McIvor and Anna Harvey who are extending their working holiday overseas, and Ann-Marie Boyd and Sam Sloan are also leaving us at the end of the year. Ann-Marie is retiring (from full time teaching), and Sam and his family are heading to Zambia where he and his partner have both accepted teaching contracts in an International school.
It is always sad to farewell great teachers however the skills, experiences and passion they instil in the children they have worked with, will always remain.

Week 8 - Term 3

It is exciting watching the progress of our all-weather turf. Just watching the machinery working has provided great experience for some of our youngest learners and motivated them in their writing. Great writing usually comes out of real experiences - children need to have seen/tried/be shown something to have things to write about! The project could well be complete by the end of this term and then we can enjoy another ‘dry’ area for sports and play.

Week 7 - Term 3

What great fun Book Week has been. The children have been ‘immersed’ in books with guest readers, guest speakers, reading in their dressing gowns at school, coming dressed as their favourite book character - just about everything you can think of that has been ‘fun’ with books.
A huge amount of work goes into co-ordinating these things - special thanks to Lynne Handcock, Amy Guerin and Susan Janssen as the organising team.
Sincere thanks to all our guest readers, Sarah S, Susan C and the PTA team who assisted at the Book and Bake sale, and EVERYONE who baked and/or bought baking. We were absolutely delighted with the support you showed with providing yummy baking and pre-loved books.

$1587.00 was raised and this has covered all costs associated with Book Week including the special performance by storyteller Mary Kippenberger. Wow!

Mary not only enthralled the whole school with her performance, but then 40 lucky Ruahine team students were treated to drama workshops for the rest of the day.
