While the main EOTC action is finished for now, cycling skills are on-going for another week. We have been really well supported in these skills by Sport Manawatu - it’s just great to see a number of children have been able to go home with their trainer wheels in their hand, rather than on their bikes. It is also very valuable to have our older learners practising cycling safely on the road.
We would encourage adults to keep supporting these new skills - like everything new learnt, it takes on-going practice to cement and retain.

What an amazing week we have had exploring Education Outside the Classroom. Over the week the children have all had the opportunity to try indoor bowling, practise biking skills, play snag golf and mini putt, have some fun in the pool, play in Kowhai Park in Whanganui, and also try some traditional Māori games. Other experiences (just to name a few from different kete) have included technology or team challenges, team building, orienteering, kite flying, a picnic in the forest, parachute fun - and for Years 4- 6, a triathlon too.

We are very much looking forward to next week’s Education Outside the Classroom programme. It will be a week filled with learning - but in a different style to the usual classroom setting.
The New Zealand curriculum has a focus on Key Competencies - these ‘soft’ skills are vitally important to developing young people who can effectively ‘manage themself’, ‘relate to others’, ‘participate and contribute’, ‘problem solve’ and ‘think’. Your children will be actively practising all of these skills next week.

Thank you to everyone who came along last night and informally met teachers and other members of our school community. It was a great evening - as usual! Special thanks to our PTA and parents for organising, preparing and serving the food.

Welcome to the 2019 school year. A very special welcome to our new students, who have made fantastic starts at our school. We have an ‘action packed’ term planned and can’t wait to share it with the children and our community whānau. Our inquiry focus is centred around the concept of ‘Taumahekeheke - (competing in a healthy, positive way).
