Term 2, Week 5 - 2020

We are all excited about having the children back at school next Monday morning. There are some changes to ‘normal’, just so we can be sure that we are prudently managing having the whole school back on site.

Please carefully read the document below for details, but in summary:

  • -  The only entry onto school grounds before the 8.30 bell is for those registered with before or after school care.

Everyone else must wait (socially distanced) at the footpath area.

  • -  We are trying to avoid having additional adults on site (of course New Entrant children may have ONE adult to

support them for their first days). Any adults entering buildings will be required to sign in at the office.

  • -  We have developed different drop off/pick up zones for each kete - this helps with practising social distancing,

    particularly among groups of adults.

  • -  In releasing TKW and TKP students at 2.45pm we are trying to avoid some of the congestion at the gate at the end

    of the day.

  • -  There will be firm expectations around hygiene/hand washing and no tolerance around sick people being able to

    be at school.

It was fantastic to have our Prime Minister announce that the country is coming down to Alert Level 2 later this week and even better to hear that school is open for ALL children from next Monday the 18th May.

We will send you further details later in the week regarding meeting points etc (we are unable to have the children on the school grounds before 8.30am) and no parents will be entering the buildings unless they have formally signed in.

We are aware that for health reasons (such as immunocompromised) some children may not be able to return to school at AL2. We ask that you advise their non attendance to me as soon as possible by emailing to l.dixon@hokowhitu.school.nz

We are really looking forward to seeing all the children next Monday - as we move into our ‘new normal’, and get back into routines and enjoy being together.

Like me, I am sure you have followed with interest the announcements made by the Prime Minister. It is reassuring to hear how well our country has done at minimising the impacts of COVID-19. Alert Levels 4 and 3 have not been easy and I thank you for your ongoing support for the work we are doing.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister advised that in Alert Level 2 schools are safe environments for children, young people and staff and that additional public health control measures are in place to prevent the spread of disease and to support contact tracing.

The good news is that when we are able to, we will be ready to welcome all students and staff back to our school site. Please note: the earliest possible date this will occur is Monday 18th May.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback so many of you are giving our staff regarding our distance learning efforts. We would like to give all of you who are supervising the distance learning a huge paki- paki (clap) too - thank you!

Many of you are juggling a number of balls at the moment and we want to reassure you that your efforts are much appreciated by us too.

Thank you to those of you who have let us know that your child/ren needs to be here at school during Alert Level 3. We know that if you could, you would have chosen to keep your child at home and we 100% understand how difficult this is for you and your tamariki.

I hope this email finds everyone safe and well. Thank you so much for the efforts you have been making with distance learning. We know it isn’t easy and really don’t want you to be stressed about it if everything doesn’t get done every day!
