Welcome to Term 3 everyone! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to the 8 new pupils who have
joined us this week - we hope that you feel supported and happy here at Hokowhitu School. It is our aim to
STRIVE to be the best we can be and this includes showing atawhai/kindness.
We also opened up our final New Entrant class for 2021 this week. Mrs Merryn Hawkins and Mrs Michelle
Parker are co-teaching in Waka Iti - it’s great to have you both here.
Mrs Kirstine Hintz is covering teacher release two days per week - welcome to you too Kirstine.
As a follow up to mid-year reports being sent home, we invite you to come along to school and have the opportunity to
chat with each of your child’s teachers and see the learning going on in the kete. While it is not essential (if you have
calendar clashes), we try to even out numbers by requesting the A-L and M-Z surnames split over the two evenings.
One of our new traditions at school has been to plant a tree over Matariki. The whole school came out in support and 4 of
our students assisted with the planting of a kowhai tree. Our Kapa Haka roopu also performed. Thanks to Mrs Blay and
Mr Masoe for their work in preparation for this occasion.
Last night was also our whānau hui evening - an opportunity for our Māori whānau to come along to school and share
their ideas and aspirations for the tamariki here who are of Māori descent. We thank those of you who were able to
attend and korero with us.
Our PTA meeting is next Wednesday afternoon. We meet in the staffroom and the meeting is finished by 4pm. Do come
along and share your ideas and/or offer to help as possible. Everything the PTA does is to support the children who are at
our school right now.
As an end-of-term treat the PTA will be offering an American Hotdog lunch on the last day of this term (9th July). Order
forms came home earlier this week - orders (with correct money) are due back at school by the 2nd July.
Please only indicate that you wish to pay from your family account if you already have an account set up with us AND it is
currently in CREDIT. Thank you.
Thanks for the great turn-out at last week’s disco. Special thanks to the staff and members of the PTA who
helped with prep and supervision. A great example of good teamwork!
