Term 1, Week 1, 2016

Welcome to the 2016 school year. A very special welcome to our new staff and students, who have all made fantastic starts at our school. There are loads of exciting programmes and activities planned for the term!

POOL PARTY - Next Thursday evening (11th Feb) from 5 - 6.30 pm we invite everyone to come back to school for an informal event that gives parents/staff and whanau the opportunity to mingle and chat. Bring the family, the PTA will be selling sausages, nachos and juicies for an easy meal option. The pool will be open for anyone wanting a swim and we will have some sports equipment out, so join the fun.

Week 9, Term 4

Today is Mr Sloan’s last day with us - in fact he flies out of New Zealand on Sunday! We sincerely thank Sam for his input into our school and wish he, Kerri and Charles all the very best adventures in Zambia.

We also farewell Ms Treder and Ms Geary at the end of this year. Both Annette and Kirsty have completed their fixed term contracts with us. Thank you to you both and best wishes for the future.

Staffing updates: Ben McCarthy has applied for an additional 2 terms of sick leave to allow him to complete his treatment. Mrs Michelle Mikkelsen has accepted Ben’s position for the first half of next year - Michelle is an experienced teacher who has done a considerable amount of relieving for us this year in the flexible learning spaces, so she will be a real asset in TKM!

It also gives me great pleasure to be able to let you know that Mrs Carlee Hodge has been appointed as the Co-Leader of the Ruahine Team. Carlee will lead in TKA - the Y4/5 kete. She is an experienced team leader at levels right across the school, however is currently leading a Y7/8 team at North Street School (Feilding). The children who are going to be in TKA next year will get to meet Mrs Hodge next week.

Week 8, Term 4

Please make sure that you have Thursday evening (10th Dec) clearly marked on your ‘must attend’ list for next week. Our Christmas carnival and Prize -giving (followed by the Year 6 graduation celebration) is shaping up to be an evening not to be missed. The PTA has organised a variety of yummy foods to be on sale, there will be ‘live’ entertainment (from our talented children and school choir) and both class and Year 6 awards will be presented.

This ‘free to air’ outdoor event was very successful last year and we expect the same in 2015.

Come to school from 5pm, bring your picnic blanket or deck chairs and cash for dinner (or BYO picnic), and enjoy the festive atmosphere while deciding what style of food you fancy. We are holding the event on the concrete area between TKA and the hall this year, using the steps on the ‘island’ as our stage.

In the unlikely (we hope) event of the weather being totally unsuitable for this to be outdoors, we have pencilled in a booking at St Albans church (as we simply won’t have enough room in our hall).

Week 7 - Term 4

Thank you very much to everyone who came and supported the athletics sports on Monday. Our thanks to Reece Hawkins and Dean Parsons for their great organisation. Congratulations to all the children who ‘strived to be the best they could be’.
A team of senior athletes have now been selected to represent us next Tuesday 1st Dec at the interschool event at the Massey track. Permission slips and transport help offers should by now be back at school.

Week 6 - Term 4

We are in the final stages of planning our layout for 2016 and have some exciting changes to look forward to. The Year 0-2 areas of the Tararua team will be located in Rooms 1/2/3/4/5/6 and 7 - Ruma Rima (5) will be our brand new class and will form part of a new kete with Ruma Ono (6) and Whitu (7) once the building is complete. Year 3 learners will be in Te Kete Manawa TKM; Year 4/5 will be in Te Kete Aronui (TKA) and the Year 5/6 kete will be over on the ‘island’ in the soon to be developed Te Kete Tangaroa or TKT!

This makes logical sense as we progress in an anticlockwise direction from our youngest learners around to the eldest.
Some of the building and modifications will not be undertaken until school finishes, so there will be changes over the holiday period.
