Term 2, Week 9 - 2020
12 June, 2020 by Hokowhitu School
Isn’t it great to be back to alert level 1 as a country? While it will take some time for us to settle to another ‘new normal’,
please be assured that we are working really hard to get as many exciting and varied experiences as possible programmed
for the children here at school. While we have had to cancel SOME things in our calendar, we are doing our very best to
replace them with other events that will be exciting and entertaining as well.
CONSULTATION AROUND PICK UP/DROP OFF PROCEDURES
Thanks to everyone who replied to this consultation. The details and outcomes were sent home to you yesterday,
however, as a reminder, here are the summary points.
-
No one at school before 8.30am
-
EVERYONE is welcome onsite
-
Head to your meet and greet point following the 8.30am bell. A teacher will be there to greet and chat.
-
On Friday mornings, everyone is welcome to come into the classroom and share the week’s learning.
-
TKW and TKP children (and their older siblings) have the option to leave school at 2.45pm. Let your teacher know
by email if they will be a 2.45pm or a 3.00pm pick up from the meet and greet point.
Term 2, Week 8 - 2020
05 June, 2020 by Hokowhitu School
Like you, we are waiting to see when our country will be able to go to Alert Level 1 as we continue to contain the Covid 19
virus.
Yesterday you received a google form consulting you on your views for some proposed ‘tweaks’ to continue our current
drop off and pick up times/places. These proposed changes come from us using new (and streamlined) procedures that
enhance health and safety for everyone and also set the tamariki up for independence and readiness to be starting
learning right on the 8.50am bell. Please only complete this once per family - https://forms.gle/y1ARfSLNqQxCv4Lr6
We thank you for your support with this and welcome your feedback.
While the opinions are collated and analysed, we will continue with the current arrangements.
Term 2, Week 7 - 2020
29 May, 2020 by Hokowhitu School
Thank you once again for your flexibility and understanding of our ‘new normal’ here at school.
At this stage the arrangements for pick up and drop off will remain throughout Alert Level 2. We hope that you and/or
your child is enjoying a personal greeting as they come in each morning and a cheerful ‘goodbye’ as they leave in the
afternoon. The teachers are noticing how ‘independent’ even our youngest learners are becoming - they really can put
their bag up on the hook by themselves, unpack their food and book bag and set themselves up for learning all by
themselves. Thank you for trusting us to support them with this!
As a reminder, please carefully read the document below for details, but in summary:
-
The only entry onto school grounds before the 8.30am bell is for those registered with before or after school care.
Everyone else must wait (socially distanced) at the footpath area.
-
We are trying to avoid having additional adults on site (of course New Entrant children may have ONE adult to
support them for their first days). Any adults entering buildings will be required to sign in at the office.
-
We have developed different drop off/pick up zones for each kete - this helps with practising social distancing,
particularly among groups of adults.
-
In releasing TKW and TKP students (and their siblings) at 2.45pm, we are managing to avoid most of the
congestion at the gate (and with parking) at the end of the day.
-
There will be firm expectations around hygiene/hand washing and no tolerance around sick people being able to
be at school.

In the newsletter attached you will find all of the information regarding the winter sports that are available this year.
Term 2, Week 6 - 2020
22 May, 2020 by Hokowhitu School
It has been fantastic to have so many children back at school - we missed them so much. We’ve just loved seeing how
happy they are to be interacting with their friends again, and enjoying being together. The staff are delighted with how
quickly the children have settled in and we are right back into full programmes of learning!
The arrangements for pick up and drop off will remain as they were this week, just so we can be sure that we are
continuing to manage having the whole school back on site safely.
