What is the “Wonder Way of Learning"
Our vision:
✦ We want children who leave this school at year 6 to be as keen to learn, with minds as full of wonder, as they were when they started as five year olds, and with the skills to learn for themselves.
How will we achieve this?
✦ Children are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions for investigation, using the format “I/we wonder…”
• I wonder what….?
• I wonder how…?”
• I wonder who….?”
• I wonder why….?”
• I wonder when…?
• I wonder where…?
• I wonder which…?
• I wonder if….?
• I wonder whether…?
• I wonder what will happen if…?
✦ This leads to a teacher response:
• I wonder how you can find out the answers to your question?
✦ Teachers guide children to age appropriate research tools e.g.
• Interviews
• Books
• Visits
• Letters
• Email
• Internet search
• Skype conferencing
✦ Teachers also ask a follow up question:
• I wonder how you could show others what we have learned?”
✦ Children are guided to develop ways of presenting their learning e.g.
• Posters
• Booklets
• Slide shows
• Movies
• Web pages
• Blogs
• Emails
• Role plays
What is the “Wonder Way of Teaching"?
Our teachers:
✦ have the challenge of providing 21st century learning opportunities to all children that best meets their needs and that equips them for their future.
✦ promote the development of quality inquiry learning programmes, using our Wonder Way of Learning.
✦ plan learning programmes that stimulate children’s ‘wonder’
✦ guide children to develop their own learning programmes to answer their ‘wondering”
✦ assist children in using a wide of range of publishing options so they can share their learnings with a wide audience
✦ teach children an extensive range of research and presentation skills to help them achieve their aims.
